FERPA

Understanding FERPA

Family Education Records Privacy ACT (FERPA) applies to all college students regardless of age. Even when participating in concurrent enrollment while in high school, you own your academic record. You will need to be part of the conversation if you need any help in regards to your academic record. Your first step with an issue is to contact your high school counselor.

  • FERPA- allows you as the student the right to inspect and review your college education record. This right is limited solely to the you as the student.
  • FERPA prevents non-directory/confidential information from being released to anyone other than you as the student (including your parents). You must complete a Release of Information form with your SSA-CE if you want your parents to have access to your post-secondary record.
  • Once you are enrolled at SCC you will be covered by FERPA, and coverage begins upon enrollment.
