Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions about concurrent enrollment?

We have answers.

Before you jump into your college class, take a minute to get familiar with how things work at SCC. This FAQ covers the essentials like grades, support, class expectations, and how to stay on track. It鈥檚 all here to help you start strong, avoid surprises, and feel ready for the college experience you鈥檙e stepping into.

If I鈥檓 a college student now, does that mean I have additional responsibilities?

You may need to take on additional responsibilities for your own learning. Classes are rigorous and expectations for assignments are the same as traditional SCC college courses. As a college student, it is your responsibility to keep SCC informed of enrollment, address changes, etc.

Do I get any privileges as an SCC student?

Yes! There are many privileges to being an SCC student, such as:

  • Free admission to SCC Athletic events 鈥 just present your SCC student ID!
  • Use of our brand new rec center with your student ID 鈥 basketball, walking track, cardio, and more.
  • Use of the campus library and computer lab
  • Free Windows 365 and SCC email account
  • The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) provides free in-person tutoring services via professional and peer tutors to currently enrolled SCC students.
  • Free online tutoring via Brainfuse is linked in your Canvas courses provided by the ICCOC.
What if I have an IEP or 504 plan? Will my SCC class provide me the same accommodations?

High school students who have a documented disability may be able to receive accommodations. These will not always be the same as listed in an IEP or 504 plan.

In order to receive these, you must first be registered with SCC鈥檚 Director of Accessibility Services.

ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) - Students requesting accessibility services from SCC are required to submit an application for services and documentation of the disability.

It is your responsibility to advocate for yourself.

If you have questions, please contact Angie Mickelson.
Email: amickelson@scciowa.edu
Phone: (319) 208-5167

No accommodations may be offered until the registration has been completed.

How do I access my grade for my SCC class?

Your instructor will submit midterm and final grades to the SCC Registrar鈥檚 Office, and those grades will be shared with your high school counselor for your report card.

You can access your class information through Hawknet, the portal for SCC students, which is available through the SCC website.

Will my grades at SCC count towards my high school GPA?

Your grade will be part of your cumulative grade point at the college level if you are taking a course supported by your high school.

Check with your high school counselor to verify the policy at your school.

If I decide to go to SCC after high school graduation, what else do I need to do?

You will need to complete a full application for admission, participate in orientation, and complete any required placement tests if not already done.

What if I go to another college after high school? How do I get my transcript?

You鈥檒l need to submit a transcript request to SCC鈥檚 Registrar using the 鈥淩equest A Transcript鈥 link at the bottom of our homepage. SCC does charge a small fee for this service.

Your unofficial transcript is also available through Hawknet.

Will my SCC credit transfer to any college?

To determine how your SCC credit will transfer to another college, it鈥檚 best to contact that college directly to have them review the classes you have taken. Credit transfer policies vary by college.

I am taking a self-pay course. Am I eligible for financial aid?

No. High School Students are not eligible for Financial Aid, however, if you are enrolled in a self-pay course, you are now able to make payment installments. Be sure to you understand the cost expectations before enrolling in a course.

What if I decide to drop this class? What鈥檚 the policy and who do I contact?

Immediately notify your high school counselor and they will contact SCC to verify the drop date. Depending on when the course is dropped, there are three possible consequences at SCC:

  1. The course will be dropped from the student鈥檚 record with no grade penalty.
  2. The transcript will show a 鈥淲鈥 for withdrawal. There will be no grade point penalty.
  3. The transcript will show an F.

Your high school may also have policies that apply if you decide to drop a class. Please check with them as well.

If you are enrolled in a college course taught at your high school, the drop dates will differ from both online and face to face classes. Please talk with your high school counselor immediately if you want to drop the class.
