Students in the Nursing Prep Academy take pre-nursing courses that apply towards a
nursing degree.
Where are classes offered?
Classes are held on the West Burlington Campus, Keokuk campus, and participating high schools.
What kind of classes will I take?
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Certified Nurse Aide
- Microbiology
- Developmental Psychology
- Introduction to Sociology
How long does it take?
Career academy length is two consecutive school years.
How many college credits can I earn?
Students who complete this academy will earn up to 27.5 hours of college credit that will transfer to SCC's nursing program.
What do I get when I complete the career academy?
Students who complete this academy can earn their Nurse Aid certificate.
What can I do after high school?
Keep going!
Students who complete this nursing prep academy and meet placement test requirements will be prepared to start SCC鈥檚 LPN program. In one year, they can then begin working as a licensed practical nurse or continue their studies to earn their associate degree nursing to become a registered nurse (RN). They can also transfer to a number of colleges and universities to complete a bachelor鈥檚 of science nursing degree (BSN).
